Bigger than you think, and usually wider than you think. Most turquoise imagery is water — lagoons, shallows, glassy coastlines — and water wants width: a generous horizontal format reads naturally, where a tall narrow crop of the sea can feel like looking through a letterbox. Turquoise also carries scale well because, for all its saturation, it is a cool colour; a large panel of it calms a wall where the same acreage of red would shout.
One large piece beats several small ones in this palette. Scattered small turquoise prints read as seaside knick-knacks; a single wide piece reads as a view. Over a sofa or bed, aim for roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it — the standard rule, but turquoise can push toward three-quarters without overwhelming.
Pairings decide whether the result feels coastal or contemporary. White, sand, rattan and pale wood take it to the beach; charcoal, black metal and walnut sharpen it into something more urban. Both work — just decide which room you are making before you buy the surrounding pieces. Metal accents lean the same way: rattan and brass for the coastal read, chrome and steel for the sharper one.
Know that turquoise is a shape-shifter under artificial light. Warm bulbs nudge it green; cool bulbs nudge it blue. Neither is wrong, but if you fell for the exact colour in a daylight photograph, check how similar tones look in your room at night before committing to a large size.
Measure before you order. Tape out the intended dimensions on the wall with masking tape and live with the rectangle for a day. With most colours an undersized piece merely looks modest; with turquoise it looks like a swatch, and the tape test costs nothing.
