Bathroom Wall Art

Bathroom Wall Art Put a framed paper print under glass in a bathroom and watch what a year does to it. The glass fogs every time somebody showers. Condensation runs down the inside and wicks into the mount board. The paper takes on moisture, cockles into gentle waves that catch the light, and no amount of straightening fixes it. Canvas has no glazing to fog and no mount to draw water up, which is the whole reason it turns up in these rooms so often. That is not immunity, though. Constant steam is hard on anything hanging in a small room, and the fix is ventilation rather than material: run the extractor during and after a shower, leave the door open afterwards, and do not hang anything on the wall the spray actually reaches. A bathroom with a window that gets opened daily will treat a picture far better than a sealed internal one with a tired fan. Subjects that hold up here are calmer than people expect. Botanical studies, sea life, shells, soft abstracts, black and white photography of water. The room is small, usually bright and usually hard surfaced, with tile and mirror bouncing light around, so an image carrying a lot of visual noise has nowhere to breathe. Scale runs against instinct too. In a small room, one larger piece looks calmer than three small ones, because small rooms are already full of small objects: bottles, taps, switches, a mirror, a towel rail. Adding more small rectangles makes the space read as cluttered. Before choosing a wall, run the shower for ten minutes with the door shut, then go in and put your hand flat on each wall you are considering. If it comes away damp, that wall gets nothing hung on it, whatever the thing is made of.
