People buying this are usually after a temperature rather than a place. Nobody arrives here needing a botanical record of a monstera; they arrive because a bathroom ought to feel like a decent hotel, or because a north-facing room in February needs something green in it, or because a conservatory has gone bare and cold. Knowing that helps, because it means the piece has to deliver warmth and calm at a glance, and botanical accuracy matters a great deal less than mood.
Two quite different treatments compete for the same wall. Flat graphic leaf shapes — monstera, banana, fan palm, all silhouette and clean edge — behave like pattern and work well in small or busy rooms. Photographic jungle, dense and layered with light coming down through the canopy, behaves like a landscape and needs a wall it can command. Mixing the two in one room rarely comes off, because they operate at different volumes.
Green is the thing to keep under control. There are a great many greens, and a wall carrying three pieces in three unrelated ones looks like an accident rather than a scheme. Choose a single family — all cool and blue-leaning, or all warm and olive — and the group settles immediately. A shared dark, near-black background will also hold mismatched greens together if you are stuck with them.
Rooms with real humidity, such as a small shower room with poor ventilation, are hard on anything hung in them, so favour a spot away from direct steam and let the room dry out properly between uses. That is common sense rather than a rule, but it saves a certain amount of disappointment later.
If you already keep houseplants, go graphic and simple. The room is supplying live botanical detail already, and a photographic jungle behind a shelf of real leaves reads as clutter rather than abundance. When the plants are the feature, the art should be the flat background note that lets them get on with it.
