Snow is the brightest thing in any frame it appears in, and that single fact governs how these prints behave. A snow-covered peak is effectively a large pale shape with a hard edge, so the image reads as a silhouette long before anyone registers the detail. Against a white wall that pale mass bleeds outwards and the composition loses its grip; against grey, charcoal or a deep blue it snaps into focus.

Ridge lines are the other structural detail worth noticing. Almost every mountain image has a dominant diagonal, and that diagonal carries the eye out of the frame in one direction. Hang the piece so it leads into the room, or towards the next thing you want looked at, rather than towards a door or a corner, and the whole wall settles.

Cold light behaves oddly indoors. Alpenglow, blue-hour shadow and clear-sky snow all skew cool, and in a room lit by warm bulbs the print can look slightly dead in the evening. This is a subject that rewards a wall with daylight on it, or at least a neutral bulb somewhere nearby.

Distance matters less than with most landscapes. A big mountain image works from across a room because the shapes are large and simple, and there is no fine detail you need to approach for — unless the photograph includes a climber or a hut, in which case that speck is the whole story and people need to be close enough to find it.

Choosing between images, look at the sky. Flat white overcast leaves the peak with no separation along its top edge, and it will fade into a pale wall; a sky with some tone in it, even faint, gives the summit an edge to stand against. That one detail decides more than the mountain does.
