The usual mistake is buying the postcard: the pyramid dead centre, in flat midday light, from the angle everyone photographs it from. It is instantly recognisable and, on a wall, oddly lifeless, because the shape is so familiar that the eye identifies it and moves on. The images that hold attention have something else going on — raking late light down one face, sand and haze softening the base, a low angle that makes the geometry loom, or a crop that cuts the apex off and lets you infer the rest.

Silhouette treatments are the strongest performers here for a simple reason. A triangle against a graded sky is close to pure geometry, and geometry survives being reduced to a shape on a wall in a way that a detailed record shot does not. Dusk versions also sidestep the flat-light problem that dogs so many photographs of this subject.

Colour is narrow and useful: sand, dust, bleached gold, and whatever the sky is doing. That set sits well with cream, warm white, camel and dark wood, and it works particularly hard in rooms with brass or aged bronze fittings. Against cool grey it can look dusty rather than warm, so if your walls are cold, favour a version with real blue or violet in the sky to bridge the gap.

Orientation deserves a moment. The subject is a triangle, so a wide format gives it desert to sit in while a taller crop pushes it upward and makes it monumental. Both work. What does not work is a square that leaves equal dead space on every side, which tends to strand the pyramid in the middle.

Check the horizon before ordering. Desert images are unforgiving of a tilt, and a base line running even slightly off level will nag at you every time you walk past, far more than in a woodland or coastal scene where nothing is straight anyway.
