Herb prints are unusually easy to pair, which is most of their appeal. The palette is narrow — sage, olive, a soft grey-green, the odd lilac flower head — and the compositions are quiet, so almost nothing hung near them has to fight for room. Botanical studies of other plants, plain lettering, a small framed map, an old set of kitchen scales on a shelf below: all of it sits together without anyone having to think about it.
What they will not sit beside is saturated colour. Put a herb study next to a bright photographic print and the herb retires from the conversation altogether. If the room already has one loud thing on the wall, the herbs need a different wall, not a smaller frame.
Grouping is where this subject earns its keep. A single herb image can look thin on its own; three or four in matching treatment, evenly spaced, become a proper block of wall with some rhythm to it. Keep the spacing tight, roughly a hand's width between frames, so the group reads as one object rather than as several small pictures that happen to be near each other.
Kitchens are the obvious home, with one practical caution: the wall directly behind a hob collects steam and cooking film, and nothing hung there stays clean for long. A side wall, the dining end of the room, or the run beside a pantry door keeps them out of the worst of it.
If you want the group to feel considered rather than assembled, use herbs you actually cook with. There is a small and genuine pleasure in a rosemary print above the spot the rosemary lives, and it saves you from the version everyone recognises: four handsome leaves that nobody in the house could name.
