Daylight and lamplight will show you two different pieces here. Under a bright window, graffiti roses run at full volume — spray-can pinks, acid greens and hard black outlines with all their street energy intact. Under warm evening bulbs the same print mellows: the neon softens, the blacks deepen, and the piece drifts closer to a classic still life than you expected. Check which light your room mostly lives in before deciding how loud a version you can take.

The appeal of the genre is the collision itself — the most traditional subject in art handled in the least traditional medium. Good examples keep both halves alive: recognisably a rose, unmistakably street. If either side wins outright you are left with a plain flower print or a tangle of tags.

Plain, modern rooms make the best hosts. A big graffiti rose over a sideboard, in a home office or above a bed gives a restrained space its one loud thing, and it sits particularly well against concrete tones, black metal and bare white walls. In an already-busy room it has to shout to be heard, and shouting is where this style tips into chaos.

Go large if you can. Street art was made for walls measured in metres, and the drips, splatter and overspray that give these images their texture need size to read as intentional rather than as printing flaws.

Give it clear space — half a metre or more of empty wall on each side. Bold work argues with its neighbours, and this is the one category where a gallery-wall arrangement almost always makes every piece in it worse.
