Go wider than you think. Blue and green imagery is mostly horizon and canopy — seascapes, forests, layered abstracts — and it wants the horizontal formats those subjects naturally take. A wide piece above a sofa, bed or sideboard lets the eye travel across it the way it would across an actual view; the same image cropped small and square loses the point of itself.
Cool colours also recede. Where a red or orange print pushes forward and claims attention, blue-green settles back into the wall, so a size that looks bold in a listing can read modest once hung. If you are torn between two sizes, take the larger one.
This palette is among the easiest to live with because it borrows nature's own combination — sky over land, water over weed — which is why it rarely fights with anything. White, oat, grey and pale timber all work around it. The one caution is yellow-beige walls, which can turn certain greens muddy; compare a corner of the image against your paint before committing.
Light matters more here than with warmer palettes. North-facing rooms cool everything a step further and can push a blue-green piece towards cold; if that is your room, favour images with some warmth built in — golden light on water, olive rather than emerald green.
A quick test before you buy: stand where you will most often see the wall, usually the doorway or the seat opposite, and pace out the distance. At three metres or more, fine botanical detail disappears and only shape and colour survive, so choose an image whose large shapes are doing the work.
